My name is Ben and this is my site.
Well, actually it’s my mother Terry’s website — I’m just her son doing some of the heavy lifting, bringing my technical expertise to the kitchen table and helping to give my mom a voice 🙂
My mom has been my ‘Kombuchaspiration‘ for a few years now; she’s the real expert behind making Kombucha –everything I know about Kombucha comes from my mom.

At any given day in her kitchen, she has something like 20 to 30 bottles of Kombucha, Kefir, Fermented Veggies, Sourdough, and a lot more fermentations going on. She’s been brewing Kombucha for many years and has been drinking ‘buuch’ for over 20 years! In fact, she even had her first sip of Kombucha back when she was 15, way back in the 60’s!
The KombuchaHome Story
I’ve lived in locations over the world, from the Pacific Northwest of British Columbia, Canada, to the tropical wilds of Belize, Central America, and now in Thailand, of the Island of Puket.
But the Kombucha story starts with my mom who introduced us to Kombucha way back in 1994, while we lived in Belize. Back then, she had somehow managed to haul a Kombucha Scoby from Canada to Belize (a 3 week drive by car over dusty roads down through the United States, then Mexico). Back then, there was no real literature on how to brew Kombucha properly; no tutorials on how to second ferment Kombucha or flavor it. My mom simply threw the Kombucha scoby into a big plastic bucket and filled it with black tea every week.
I was about 12 at this time and utterly horrified by this mushroom-brain looking thing floating in yellow tea. I had a few sips of it, but I was, frankly, too horrified by the look of the brewing Kombucha to drink any substantial amounts.
Fast-forward 2o years and I am now preaching Kombucha to the public with a website. Times have changed!
I’m a big fan of Kombucha now and I drink it every day and, thanks to my mom, experiment with brewing new flavors and techniques.
This website is everything me and my mom know about Kombucha.
Why Did We Create KombuchaHome?
For one simple reason: to spread the gospel of Kombucha far and wide!
There’s a lot of ‘Kombucha’ information out there on the web. There’s a lot of Kombucha-style websites you can find online. But there’s not a lot of deep Kombucha brewing resources for beginners and advanced people alike. Most of the Kombucha information is simple ‘how to make kombucha’ style tutorials.
And that’s fine. But for people who need their basic Kombucha brewing questions answered and for people who want to really take their Kombucha brewing to the next level of taste and experimentation, there’s not a lot of solid information out there (not unless you buy expensive Kombucha books).
We want to change that here at KombuchaHome.
We want to make brewing Kombucha easier (well, easier than it is). And we want to encourage you to experiment with Kombucha and try NEW things, to seek out new flavor ‘Kombunations’.
You’ll find us a passionate group over here at KombuchaHome.
I love making Kombucha.
In fact, I love it so much that I’ve created this detailed website to help spread the gospel of Kombucha to the masses! And to help people learn all they need to know about how to make Kombucha on their own. There’s no sales pitch to this site, no sleazy attempt to sell you guys anything. I don’t make any money hawking Kombucha SCOBYs to you guys. There is no angle to this information!
Just honest, good, and detailed information about making Kombucha.
