Hi! I have a Tibetan Scoby that was brewed exclusively with pu er tea; i want to try just regular black/red tea instead. Would it then not be considered Tibetan anymore? Thank u
SCOBYs are flexible and can adjust to different types of sugars and teas pretty easily. and regardless if it’s Tibetan or not, it will almost certainly work with OTHER tea types. In fact, I suspect it should do better with green or black tea over pu er tea. Most SCOBYs do best (in terms of fermenting the fastest with minimal complications) with white refined sugar and black tea.
Tibetan kombucha is nothing more than a brand / marketing name in my opinion.
