    Gone are the days when a dessert was brought over to the new neighbor or for a special occasion or school function. Gelatin has always been the go-to dessert that everyone loves to eat and it doesn’t take long to make it. With this recipe, you will use water kefir along with delicious fresh berries that will have your guests giving you a thumbs up all around.

    For this recipe, you will need to complete a batch of water kefir. If you are new to water kefir, this probiotic drink is packed full of important ingredients to aid in a healthy digestive system, such as bacterias that are beneficial, natural yeast, and vitamins and nutrients.

    Honey

    An active ingredient for this recipe, honey is going to give your gelatin a sweet taste. Most gelatin recipes call for sugar and gelatin together. Omit the sugar and replace it with golden nutritious honey. Raw honey is better for this recipe instead of processed.

    Berries

    You can choose to use blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, or even cherries for this recipe. Its best to use fresh berries for this recipe instead of frozen berries.

    Gelatin Powder

    This powder can be purchased at your local grocery store.  Its an inexpensive staple to keep in your kitchen for those times you want to eat something sweet but don’t want to buy sugary snacks.

    In the blender they go…

    Wash the berries and allow the a moment to dry before placing them into the blender. Add one cup of water kefir to the blender. Together, the two ingredients should reach the 2 cup line. If not, add enough water kefir to reach it. Blend until ingredients are smooth and well blended.

    Add Honey

    Add raw honey to the berries and water kefir inside the blender and blend to combine with step 1.

    Prep the Fresh berries

    Slice the fresh berries and layer them on the bottom of a glass dish

    Prepare the Gelatin

    Pour one cup of water kefir into a saucepan and then sprinkle the gelatin powder into the water. Heat the two up on low heat until the powder has completely dissolved. Be sure to scrape the bottom and sides to ensure that all powder has dissolved.

    Bring it all together

    Add the berry and water kefir mix from the blender into the gelatin and stir thoroughly to ensure that everything has been mixed together well.

    Pour over Berries

    Pour the mixture over top of the berries you placed in the glass dish.

    Cover

    Cover up the dish to ensure that no odors reach the gelatin while its chilling

    Refrigerate

    Place the glass dish of gelatin inside the refrigerator immediately and allow it to chill for up to eight hours.

    Note: Serve the gelatin with whipped cream or coconut cream topping. If it’s Independence Day, decorate the top with blueberries and strawberry slices to make an American flag on top of the whipped topping.
