    Water kefir has a great taste all on its own but sometimes you may be feeling like adding a little more flavoring to your drink. Water kefir can be made at home when you want and how much you want – all you need are water kefir grains. If you need a great recipe for making water kefir, you can find it here.

    When exploring flavorings, you may want to look no further than your cupboards where you have nice canned fruit sitting all pretty on the shelf, awaiting for winter to arrive so you can enjoy each fresh bite. The syrup protecting your fruit from drying out and losing its flavor can also be used to sweeten and flavor your water kefir. The syrup includes the the natural sugars and flavors from the fruits as well. One fruit in particular that is easy to use when flavoring water kefir is peaches.

    Canned fruit syrup that you can use for this recipe includes peach, apricot, pineapple, or pear. You can purchase the canned fruit online or you can can your own. Keep in mind, when you use grocery store canned fruit, you may end up with more sugar in your syrup which will over sweeten your drink.

    If you like to can your own fruit, you can use light to heavy syrup so you can control the amount of sweetness you will use in this kefir water recipe. You can experiment with all different types of canned fruit to give your taste buds a change every once in a while from the norm.

    Water Kefir

    For this recipe, you will need to prepare four cups of water kefir.

    Pour into Bottle with lid

    Pour the finished water into a quart sized bottle that has a lid.

    Add Fruit Syrup

    Measure and pour the fruit syrup into the quart sized bottle with the kefir water.

    Mix Well

    With a wooden spoon, mix the kefir water with fruit syrup until well blended.

    24-72 Hours

    Ferment

    Place a lid on the bottle and ferment the mixture for 24-72 hours in an area that is slightly warm but not too hot. Make sure there is no direct light hitting the container.

    Refrigerate until ready to drink

    Note: Because carbonation can occur during the fermentation process, you will want to open the bottle slowly to release the build up before drinking.
