You can even make these cobblers up during the peak season of fruit and place them in the freezer to enjoy throughout the winter. Fruit is always delicious with a fluffy pastry crust or topping and you are probably already envisioning the fruit layered underneath that pastry topping as you read this recipe.

    For the holiday celebrations in the summer, fruit cobbler is always a big hit with the crowd and it’s something you can make up a day or two before the event so you are not stressing to fix something at the last minute.

    This recipe offers a different take on the crust because instead of using regular milk, you are going to use milk kefir which will give your digestive system a boost of probiotics with every bite.

    Peaches – One of the most common types of cobbler is peach cobbler. This fruit is full of different healthy benefits include providing the vitamins A,C,E,K, and B1,B2,B3, and B6. Calcium, Magnesium, Copper, and zinc are just a few of the minerals found in just one peach. This juicy fruit can help maintain vision, can help the body in preventing cancer cells from beginning, can aid in skin care, and is a great snack when you are pregnant because of all the vitamins and nutrients it holds.

    Apples – Everyone knows that an apple a day is healthy so why not add a little crust to your apple and enjoy some cobbler? Apple cobbler can be a delicious treat and without a lot of unnecessary calories too. Apples are good for brain health, lowering bad cholesterol, preventing the development of gallstones, and cataracts.

    Nectarines – Another great fruit to add to your cobbler would be the great taste of nectarines. These juicy fruits that are related to the peach family brings its own benefits. The yellow of the flesh of a nectarine is yellow because it includes bioflavonoids, such as carotenoids. The carotenoids have antioxidants which are beneficial in protecting the body against the development of cancer and cellular conditions.

    Milk Kefir

    This recipe calls for the use of milk kefir instead of regular whole milk or reduced fat. When you add milk kefir to this recipe, it will mix up with the rest of the ingredients as milk would but it will provide a unique ingredient that isn’t found in regular milk – probiotics. Milk kefir is made with kefir grains which can be used over and over again to make your own probiotic drink on a daily basis. Probiotics are beneficial to your digestive system.     How to make this recipe

    For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

    • 6 Cups of your favorite fruit
    • 2 Cups of all purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder, double acting
    • 1 tablespoon of sugar, white refined
    • ¼ cup of butter, melted
    • 1 cup of milk kefir

    Note: You will need a 9″ x 12″ baking dish

    Preheat your oven

    You want to let your oven heat up to 450°. It can be preheating while you are mixing the ingredients.

    Wash and prepare fruit

    When using fresh fruit, you will want to wash it before cutting it into cube shapes. If you are using frozen fruit, allow the fruit time to thaw out and then drain it. Don't throw away the juice you drain off of the fruit. Save it for another recipe.

    Now that the fruit is prepared, add it to the bowl along with the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and melted butter. Stir completely after each ingredient is added.

    Add the yogurt

    Stir in the kefir and stir once more to ensure that all ingredients are combined thoroughly.

    Pour the fruit into the baking pan and using a spoon, drop a spoonful over the fruit mixture carefully. Once the dough is all gone out of the bowl, take the back of the spoon and gently spread the dough mixture over the fruit.

    Place the pan into the oven and allow it to bake, normally 20 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the crust to make sure that it is done before removing it from the oven.

    Note: Serve cobbler with a delicious scoop of ice cream or a tall glass of milk.
