Milk Kefir Dessert Sauce

Unfortunately, most delicious dessert sauces are riddled with fat and can be expensive to put together. Its also hard to get the outcome of the dessert sauce to come out right; avoiding the very sugary taste.

    You can make a sweet alternative to the fattening dessert sauces by switching regular whole milk with probiotic milk made from kefir grains. You can also substitute the white refined sugar that is called for in this recipe for honey or maple syrup. Create a sauce that is going to set your dessert apart from all other desserts served at your event.

    Dessert sauces can be added at any particular time however its best to not add it until you are ready to serve the dish. If you have been asked to prepare a dessert dish for work, parent meetings, play dates, or just because your family wants something yummy, then this recipe will help you present a wonderful taste that will have them wanting seconds.

    For this recipe, you will not be using whole milk, you will be using kefir cream. You will first need to make milk kefir.

    To make cream, you will need:

    • 1 Tablespoon of milk kefir per cup of cream
    • 1 teaspoon of milk kefir grains
    • 1 1/2 – 3 Cups of heavy cream

    Add the milk kefir grains and prepared milk into the heavy cream. Cover and allow it to stand at room temperature anywhere from 12 hours up to 48 hours. You will want to check it on occasion to taste it until it is right for you both in taste and consistency. Remove the kefir grains, which can then be placed in fresh milk.

    For the best tasting dessert sauce recipe, you will need:

    • 1/4 cup of sugar, refined white
    • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
    • 2 Cups of kefir cream

    Measure and add the kefir cream, vanilla, and sugar together in a bowl.

    Using a batter spoon, stir all three ingredients together thoroughly to ensure that all ingredients are blended until smooth.

    Place a cover on the bowl.

    Place the bowl inside the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

    NOTE: You can leave this dessert sauce in the bowl if you need to travel with your dessert. You can then add it once you are ready to serve the dish. If you put it on your dessert ahead of time, be sure to quickly put it in the refrigerator in between servings to keep it at its freshest.
